A few months ago I was tasked with setting up a tactical weapons course for my unit. After looking at a few different companies I decided to inquire with ICPS, and I was very impressed. Albert Timen’s instruction in the field was outstanding. Our particular mission is very unique and the Israeli Combat Point Shooting Method was a very fitting style for us. My team and unit is made up of guys who are in great athletic and mental shape, and even at the level we were at, Albert was able to challenge each and every one of us in many different ways (both physical and mental), this had a huge positive effect on our student learning outcome. I have never had the confidence that I have now in my issued weapons. Just the short time with Albert Timen has greatly increased the efficiency of my unit and team when dealing with weapons and tactics.

I’ll start off by saying thanks again for this weekend one more time!
Here is a bit more background on my eye condition as well as my perception before and after the course. I was born with a rare eye condition called congenital nystagmus, which – without going into too much detail – essentially causes a constant, uncontrollable quivering of my pupils. Traditionally individuals born with this condition receive a very poor prognosis; the vast majority dying quickly from a tumor surrounding the optic nerve while another significant population experiences total blindness from birth. Considering the statistics I have been very fortunate, and while I do notice some issues with depth perception and fast moving objects I have been lucky enough to beat most of the odds folks seemed to think were stack against me.
Quite a few people in life, not disparagingly per se, have expected me to face limitations in what I do, and, perhaps not knowingly, tremendously impacted aspects of my self confidence along the way. So, not surprisingly I was hesitant about my ability to participate in martial arts and, frankly, scared to carry a firearm.
KAPAP has changed all of that. While I have moderate experience in martial arts, my experience with both Brian H’s KAPAP Academy Colorado as well as Albert Timen’s KAPAP Academy has completely changed my perspective on what my boundaries may be. Perhaps the key to my success comes from the instruction I have received, but I believe that the simplicity, adaptability, and pragmatic foundation of KAPAP makes it a truly universal solution capable of working for any individual through its grounding in the use of basic body mechanics.
Nowhere has this been more evident for me than in the Israeli Combat Point Shooting system taught by Albert. My experience training with Albert and Brian has completely reshaped my perspective on what I thought was possible. Coming into my first ICPS course I had absolutely no confidence in my ability to handle firearms. My main concern: would I be able to acquire and shoot a target quickly in a life or death situation or would my eyesight cause me to miss the target and, worse yet, hit an innocent bystander?
Two days of KAPAP Academy training with Albert hosted through Brian’s KAPAP Academy Colorado put those fears to rest and more. On the first day our class learned that simple body mechanics driven by gross motor skills set the foundation for this system. Utilizing large groups of muscles for simple but effective movements eliminates the need for complex process that simply won’t work under pressure. After drilling fundamentals for just a few hours I was able to acquire a target, fire, and hit the target – multiple times! As our class slowly built upon our foundation of fundamentals, our skill and speed built. I started the second day with confidence that had grown tenfold; I couldn’t believe the progress I had made. As we continued to build our skills and speed throughout our second day we were able to test our abilities under pressure and discovered that stress actually increased our performance. With a heart rate of 150 I was able to acquire a target, draw my weapon, and group 10 shots – tightly in center mass – in less than 4 seconds.
While I may not have been the best in our class, I found that my eye condition caused no limitations whatsoever. The reliability of this system exists in its results, and the results were astounding. Albert mentioned he could teach a blind man to shoot; in the case of this system he has. While I still have much to learn, these days I feel fully confident in my ability to safely carry a firearm and even more so in my ability to perform – exceptionally – when seconds count and lives may hang in the balance. I look forward to continuing my skill building through KAPAP Academy Colorado’s regular ICPS and IFFC (Israeli Face to Face Combat) curriculum.
I would strongly recommend this course as a must-have for any responsible citizen looking to carry concealed. Regardless of body type, skill level, or even most disabilities, Albert will not only teach him/her to shoot and shoot well, but also instill a sense of confidence in his/her own abilities, shooting or otherwise, just as he has for me.
